This unique body of water provides easy access to the many hiking trails of this lush temperate rainforest. It also provides access to a series of salmon streams and lakes literally minutes from our front door. People also come from around the world to Kayak this maze of placid water the winds for miles. Our guests can enter this waterway paddling from off our beach out front of the Lodge. A map of Mitchell Bay would be nice to include. Unlike many locations in Alaska our saltwater fishery is right in front of our Lodge. You can literally look out on the waters you will be fishing. Danger Point, within view of the Lodge dining tables is one of the finest salmon fisheries in Alaska. 5 minutes by boat. The halibut, black cod and rock fishing is also amazing within view of the Lodge. Danger Point has also become a focal point of Discovery and National Geographic filming the amazing phenomana of Humpback Whale “bubblenet feeding”. This only happens in this particular location in Southeast Alaska. One of the other key elements to the unique nature of this place is that Admiralty Island is known to have the highest concentration of brown bears (Grizzlies) on the planet. The native Tlinget people named this Island “Kootznawoo” which translates to “Fortress of the Bears”. We also have one of the highest concentrations of Eagles in the world.
